The Commonweal's take on the Dickens classic is intelligent, creative and unique. It draws inspiration directly from Dickens' words, rather
than from rehashed sentimentality..."

Notes from the Director
Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol as a character study in the form of a morality tale. Ebenezer Scrooge, that penny-pinching old geezer who cares nothing for his fellow man, is transformed into an upright and caring fellow when he’s forced to compare his greed and cruelty with the generosity and kindness of others. Fortunately for Scrooge, he finds redemption in time to appreciate the joys of his conversion.
As we watch Scrooge abuse, suffer and repent, A Christmas Carol implies that within each one of us there exists the potential for Scrooge-like thoughts and actions. That’s how morality tales work. Fortunately for us, we are also shown how simple it is to correct an errant course by doing good in time to benefit ourselves and others.
Hopefully, you’ll find this ensemble approach – seven Scrooges in all – illuminating and theatrical, meaningful and fun. And hopefully, this multi-Scrooge rendition underscores Dickens’ grace note at the end of his novella: God bless us everyone. —Michael Bigelow Dixon
