Artaria String Quartet
Wednesday, June 11 & 18
Franz Schubert’s music will be celebrated as the Artaria Quartet performs several of his chamber music masterworks on the 2014 Stringwood Chamber Music Festival. There will be 8 public concerts offered, 2 faculty and 6 Young Artist Programs. For more information on the Young Artist performances please visit the website.
On Wednesday June 11 come experience your very own Vienna Madness as Artaria plums the range of that great city’s impressive musical offerings. The Wednesday June 18 Festival Concert is simply called Schubert Cello Quintet in honor one of the greatest pieces ever composed for strings. Joining the award-winning Artaria String Quartet will be renowned cellist and pedagogue Norman Fischer Professor at Rice University in Texas; and Jonathan Sturm, Concertmaster of Des Moines Symphony and Professor at Iowa State University.
Now in its 27th season, the Artaria String Quartet was recently described by Rob Hubbard of the St. Paul Pioneer Press as “Minnesota’s foremost teaching and performing string quartet.” Artaria is serving as Minnesota Public Radio Artists-in-Residence for the 2013-14 season and in January 2014 the ensemble will be featured on Twin Cities Public Television as part of the “Minnesota Originals” series. The quartet has appeared at major summer festivals including the Banff Centre in Canada, Festival de L’Epau in France, and the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, MA. Artaria is the recipient of a McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians, as well as grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Chamber Music America, the Heartland Fund and the Southeast Minnesota Arts Council for performance and educational outreach. Members of the quartet are founders and directors of the Artaria Chamber Music School, a weekly chamber music program for young string players, Stringwood, a two-week summer festival held in Lanesboro, MN each June, and the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition, an annual national event.
Artaria is now in its 15th year as resident quartet at Stringwood Summer Chamber Music School and Festival in Lanesboro, MN.
