Apprentice Company Presents: I Am My Own Wife
March 16 through April 2
“moving and intellectually absorbing,”
“a vivid portrait of a unique person,”
“a truly remarkable experience in the theatre,”
this solo one-man play is a must-see.
Written by playwright Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife tells the fascinating story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. Charlotte, born Lothar Berfelde, survived both the Nazi and Soviet regimes of East Berlin as a transvestite. The winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2004 Tony Award for Best Play, I Am My Own Wife is a profound survival story.
Congratulations to our 2016-2017 apprentice Lewis Youngren, director (and former apprentice) Philip Muehe, and the entire creative team for an invigorating and successful production that brought Charlotte von Mahlsdorf’s story to 600 people!
