Theatre Skills
Ensemble artists of the Commonweal will teach a two-semester, hands-on, elective Theatre Skills class for high school students to explore the fundamentals of creating theatre. Using our brand new theatre facility as a classroom/laboratory, this course will be offered three Saturdays per month, and will culminate in a full-scale production on our main stage. Credit is obtained through the Lanesboro School District.
Through this course, students will:
- acquire a broad-based knowledge and appreciation of the disciplines of acting, directing, playwriting, design and stage management;
- build confidence in all areas of theatre;
- learn the value of plays as dramatic literature, identifying themes and styles and understanding the playwright’s intent;
- develop critical thinking skills as they learn to evaluate their own and each other’s work;
- develop critical writing skills as they analyze the Commonweal’s productions;
- improve oral communication skills;
- become courteous and engaged audience members;
- contextualize their work through the study of theatre history.
The Theatre Skills class presents an exciting opportunity – the only one of its kind – for the students of our region. For more information, email Scott, or call (507) 467-2905 x207.
This class is made possible with contributions from
